David graduated from the University of Reading but spent the first four years of his career as 'Football in the Community Officer' at Reading FC and Lincoln City FC before moving to the states to put on Soccer Coaching Courses with UMBRO.

Realising that he was both too fat and untalented to make a living from professional sport David embraced sales and marketing before founding DBS in California in 1986.

David returned to the UK in 1994 and worked for Yellow Pages. Targets and pressure selling didn't appeal to him so it wasn't too long before he reformed DBS in the UK with his partner, Chrissy.
